Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 18 September, 2025 A.D.

 

Prepare me, gracious God

To stand before Thy face

Thy Spirit must the work perform

For it is all of grace.

 

In Christ’s obedience clothe

And wash me in His blood

So shall I lift my head with joy

Among the sons of God.

 

Do Thou my sin subdue

Thy Sovereign love make known

The Spirit of my mind renew

And save me in Thy Son.

 

Let me attest Thy power

Let me Thy goodness prove

Till my full soul can hold no more

Of everlasting love!

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: to understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  -Proverbs 1:5-7 

 

“How sweet are Thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” -Psalm 119:103-104 


Children of God, why are God’s words so sweet, sweeter than honey in our mouths? It is because they are words of salvation, forgiveness, righteousness and eternal life that remind us of God’s grace, love, and mercy because of the merits and value of the Lord Jesus Christ, our sweet Savior! When we approach the Lord God upon the ground of Christ’s righteousness, it is a sweet savour unto Him, “the savour of life unto life” (II Corinthians 2:16), because it glorifies and honors Him as the God of all grace. It is by these words that God by His Spirit gives us understanding “that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (I John 5:20).
 

Why do we hate every false way? It is because these false ways, the ways of salvation conditioned on sinners, the ways of free-willism and legalism, lead sinners to damnation and hell, and so many people are on this road to destruction (Matthew 7:15). All false ways dishonor the Lord God and deny the Lord Jesus Christ as the sure and only Savior of His people from all sin. All false ways are ways that seek to rob God of His glory and allow sinners to retains some of their own glory by making what they do or decide to be their salvation rather than the glorious Person and finished, successful work of Christ alone. 

 

Mark it down – One cannot truly taste the sweetness of God’s Word in Christ while chewing on the bitter husks of false gospels and false religion. The sweet words of God’s grace in Christ will cause us to spit out that which denies and dishonors Him. This is faith in Christ and repentance of dead works.

LORD JESUS, Be Merciful...

" LORD, be merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee." -Psalm 41:4 [KJV] Is this the language of the man after God’s own heart? Was David a saint when he uttered it? Yes, he was a holy man of God. This confession and prayer shew it. Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 19 October, 2025 A.D.

"Behold, he prayeth!"   -Acts 9:11 [KJV] In many trades, it is customary to shew samples or patterns. By these men judge of the goodness or quality of the whole. St. Paul sets himself forth as a sample, or pattern, of the free, distinguishing, sovereign, unmerited grace of God, that we should judge of its nature by its efficacy upon him. “I obtained mercy, for this cause, that in me first   (-a first rate sinner) Jesus Christ may shew forth His all long suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting”   (I Timothy 1:16.) Thou hast seen this pattern of free grace. What dost thou think of it?  The whole is alike with the pattern. It cometh alike upon elect sinners. It finds no more prerequisites, fitness, qualifications, or conditions in any, than it did in St. Paul. Whenever it takes place upon any, it produceth the same effects as it did in him.
