The Road to Christ

The best sermon is that which is full of Christ and His justice-satisfying and sin-removing Gospel.

I read a story about a young preacher who, after his sermon, foolishly asked an older minister, “What did you think of my sermon?”  The response was startling to the novice preacher.

“It was a very poor sermon because there was no gospel of Christ in it.”  The older man continued, “Don’t you know, young man, that from every town, and every village, and every little hamlet in England, wherever it may be, there is a road to London?”

The young man replied, “Yes sir, that is true.”  “Ah then,” said the older preacher, “And so from every portion of holy Scripture there is a road to the Lord Jesus Christ and His cross-death to satisfy God and save sinners.  Your business, young man, is when you get to a text of Scripture, ask, “Now, what is the road to Christ?  And then preach your message, staying on the road to the Savior."
