Jesus Our Redemption and Ransom
by D. G Miles McKee
Romans 3:24 states we are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Notice this scripture informs us that our redemption is “in Christ Jesus.” In addition, Mark 10:45 and I Timothy 2:6 tell us that Jesus is not only our redemption but also our ransom. Jesus didn’t just come merely to pay the ransom, He came to be our ransom.
Jesus is both our redemption and ransom (Ephesians 1:7; I Corinthians 1:30; Mark 10:45 and I Timothy 2:6) These are potent truths which tell us that we already have redemption, not because we have experienced something but because we have a Redeemer Who gave Himself for us.
Our
Redemption is objectively found in Christ. Christ became our redeemer
and actual ransom when He sacrificed Himself, took our sins and paid for
us with His own blood. We could not bring our righteousness to
God for we had none to bring. God, however, brought His righteousness
to us, and justifies us freely by His grace, through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus.
Let´s say it again, He (the Lord Jesus)
is both our ransom and our redemption. Because of this we do not depend
upon what we have done or upon what we feel for salvation. Indeed, the
weakest believer can look to the cross and, by faith, see that their
redemption has been accomplished and secured. Since their redemption is
secure and the ransom paid they are safe.
We, as God’s people
can, therefore, cease from the never-ending carnal and foolish efforts
to establish our own righteousness before God. Christ Jesus is now
appearing before the Throne as our Mediator Who purchased His people
with His own blood (see Hebrews 9:15; Hebrews 12:24; I Timothy 2:5;
Hebrews 8:6). We are safe!
Adolph Saphir in his usual wisdom reminds us concerning Christ;
“God has only one purpose; to manifest Himself, to show forth His glory, to reveal His perfections and to show them forth in His only-begotten and well-beloved Son, and in Him as in Jesus Christ crucified. The Lamb was slain, the apostle Peter tells us before the foundation of the world. Redemption is no afterthought in God; it is His first thought; and according to the Lamb that was slain, all things were made. He is the centre of creation; He is the centre of history. He is the centre of redemption; He is the centre of glory. Christ was the Alpha in the mind of God as well as the Omega."

And that’s the Gospel Truth!
