THE IRRESISTIBLE GIFT OF GOD!

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." -Acts 16:31 [KJV]

 

About 30% of the world’s population professes to be “Christian”.  All of them would say they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Two questions:  What does the Bible mean by believe and Who exactly is the Lord Jesus Christ on whom we must believe?  

 

Most all of those 2.3 billion people would attribute their faith either to a decision they made, or something they have always had. This is not what the Bible means by “believe.”  To believe is not a choice.  It is a miraculous work of grace in the heart that shuts us up to Christ as our only hope.  

 

It is an irresistible gift of God.  Believing is not our contribution in salvation. It is a confession, brought about by the new birth, that we have nothing in ourselves to contribute.   Who is the Lord Jesus Christ on whom we must believe to be saved?  

 

The entire Bible is given to answer this question. Just as the penman of Scripture had to be moved by the Holy Spirit to reveal the Christ who is, so we must have the Holy Spirit for the revelation of Him to be known in our hearts.  In the limited space we have here, let us reflect and rest in the Christ who is Himself the fullness of the Godhead bodily.  

 

The One whose entire and eternal existence is completely within Himself.  One who needs nothing from us.  One who is Himself the Sovereign, Successful, Savior of all His elect people.  To all those who profess to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ – Do you believe this?

LORD JESUS, Be Merciful...

" LORD, be merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee." -Psalm 41:4 [KJV] Is this the language of the man after God’s own heart? Was David a saint when he uttered it? Yes, he was a holy man of God. This confession and prayer shew it. Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 19 October, 2025 A.D.

"Behold, he prayeth!"   -Acts 9:11 [KJV] In many trades, it is customary to shew samples or patterns. By these men judge of the goodness or quality of the whole. St. Paul sets himself forth as a sample, or pattern, of the free, distinguishing, sovereign, unmerited grace of God, that we should judge of its nature by its efficacy upon him. “I obtained mercy, for this cause, that in me first   (-a first rate sinner) Jesus Christ may shew forth His all long suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting”   (I Timothy 1:16.) Thou hast seen this pattern of free grace. What dost thou think of it?  The whole is alike with the pattern. It cometh alike upon elect sinners.
