The ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGN AUTHORITY of JESUS CHRIST: Rejoice!

“ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD”

In seeking to live in this world with a worry-free and God-honoring attitude, we must be fully persuaded of the absolute authority of the Lord over all things.  If we are going to serve the cause of Christ with joy and cheerfulness, if we are going to glorify Him with a life of faith, it is imperative to have an abiding confidence that all things happen according to His eternal purpose.

Don’t be shocked when trials come your way.  Our Lord JESUS said, “In this world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).  Let us be thankful that all things are ruled and overruled by Him for His glory and the good of His people.  Every smile or tear, every gain or loss, times of sickness and health, happiness and sorrow, they are all under the sovereign government of our covenant God.

This truth that God sovereignly reigns over all things affords the child of God genuine consolation in a world filled with troubles“All things work together for good,” for the people of God.  Of course these “all things” do not, of themselves, work for our good.  It is God that causes all things to contribute to a good purpose.

I know there are difficult, burdensome experiences we must face in this life, but even the times of adversity work with all the other things for our spiritual good.  To our shame, we are often like Jacob.  When he thought Joseph was dead and then he heard Simeon was detained and the prime minister of Egypt (Joseph, though Jacob did not know that) had demanded Benjamin be brought to him, the old patriarch cried out,

“All these things are against me” (Genesis 42:36).  Jacob was having a fit of unbelief.  However, as Joseph said to his brothers, “God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive” (Genesis 50:20)

Let us ask ourselves this, Who governs “all things?”  We know the answer, don’t we?  And since God controls all things, nothing can ever be against us.  Will He not always do that which is best for His beloved children?  Circumstances may appear to oppose us, but, as Paul asked,

“If God be for us, who can be against us?  He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32).

Since God gave His Son to be the Sacrifice for our sins, since the Savior offered Him as the Sin-Offering to divine justice that “grace might reign through righteousness, we may rest assured that He will work all things together for our good.  As it is written in the book of Numbers 23: 19, speaking of Almighty GOD here, “Hath He said and shall He not do it?  Or hath He spoken and shall He not make it good?”
