The Travail of Christ's Soul
"He shall see of the TRAVAIL of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities." -Isaiah 53:11 [KJV]
If one could be saved some other way than by Christ's effectual travail, then Christ's travail would be in vain. It is either 100% His obedience unto death and nothing else added by the sinner, or it is conditioned on the contributions the sinner is doing to gain acceptance, which implies Christ's obedient travail unto death is not sufficient.
A message that does NOT clearly display the Person and work of Christ being absolutely
effectual, making the only difference for whom He died to establish a perfect righteousness for His people, can only be shown as a miserable failure and false christ who is no savior at all.
Your travail, work, effort, righteousness, holiness, godliness, in meriting, gaining, and earning anything towards acceptance is self-righteous, prideful, dead works and fruit unto death. That activity is detrimental, not helpful. The natural, blind, religious mind is deceived and spiritually dead, so much so that they have an opposing idea of contributing something to gain or maintain salvation.
The true Christ of the Gospel took on the sin of His sheep in one perfect sacrifice, fully satisfied God's law and justice for His sheep once and for all time in the action of accomplished propitiation for the sin of the elect. The Lord's whole work of His obedient life and death was sufficient, effectual, satisfactory and finished. Have you been given grace to see this and rest right there?
